The Starkiller -Quasar- by esk6a The Starkiller -Quasar- by esk6a
This is an illustration of the the most massive known quasar in the universe, weighing in with the mass of 18 billion Suns. :omg:
It lurks 3.5 billion light years away, and forms the heart of a quasar called OJ287.

I started this as practicing and ended up with this. I like the final result so I thought I will submit it.
Original size: 4000x3000
I hope you like.

COMMENTS AND CRITIQUES ARE MOST WELCOME!!!

UPDATE
I added a bit to the contrast and reduced the light. Also edited the beam's degree and perspective a bit and removed the unnatural light around some stars.

This way I would like to thank everybody who commented on this piece or added it to their collections, favorites.
Every comment is highly appreciated!

What is crazy about quasars is just that what we see in reality, it probably doesn't exists anymore, just the ghost of what it was not what it is!

Just wanted to say I saw this randomly while going through the prints and love it. The use of light is mesmerizing. When I get paid I am definetely getting this in a print :)

Would also love to know what you used to get the effects :)

Holy Shit. Excuse the language there but that's simply the only two words I can think of at first glance of this. The time and detail that went into this work of art has got to be enormous. You sir have fully captured the beauty and destructive force of a quasar!

Hey man! Do you use Apophysis to aid in making these galaxies? I was wondering because I got some pretty cool results using it in this nebula I'm making! It look freaking sweet by the way!

Nope...actually i used hurricane images for reference and overpainted on them to have the base shape, and then I used different fractal brushes to paint the rest of the details on many layers with different colors and blend modes.

I dont really use Apophysis too much because I really miss the natural depth and detail from the Apophysis made nebulas. I prefer painting with fractal brushes.
I will show my brushing techniques in my galaxy tut soon.

cheers ;)

That's very nicely done, a galaxy-like effect is difficult to do as is and one of these is essentially like it. I also like the warm colours too, kinda has a "dangerous" mood to it, and the details in the beam look neat too, their stretched effect lets you know how fast its jetting out 8-)

Just watched a discovery channel's documentary about Blackholes and the universe itself and I found out about the Quasars, and they are completely outstanding! :O

So I searched it on deviantART and I saw this, that's beyond my expectations :D

Thank you for doing this, it's AMAZING!
